Walking The Sacred Path
Walking The Sacred Path,
Labyrinth Love
By Melinda Iverson Inn
Summer is here.
How wonderful it is to be out of doors and in touch once again with our nature friends. One of the most exciting things about the transition to Summer is that it brings the opportunity to create a labyrinth, better known as a personal or group walking mediation path, that ends where it starts.
Dowsing is one method many people use to develop labyrinths.
Most people think of water when asked about dowsing, however, there are many facets within the dowsing realm besides finding water. There is health dowsing, earth energy dowsing as in leylines and earth energy currents, and there is labyrinth dowsing.
Further examination of these symmetrical paths reveals that there is an intricate and yet beautifully simplistic method of not only walking one but in the creation of one. When creating a labyrinth placed in a location in cooperation with nature and the land, using the stone beings that want to participate, a labyrinth can become a powerful gateway to one’s inner consciousness. I found this passage in one of my favorite books and it inspired me to share this whole new way of partnering with and embodying core kindness. It might take a little, or in some instances, a lot of practice.
Walking a Labyrinth with intent can be experienced as a Spiritual practice through an awakening and aligning of the chakras to bring through and into our being absolute, a calming of the mind, and as a way to honor Mother Earth and oneself at the highest octaves.
The history behind recorded Labyrinths carved into stones is a mystery that goes beyond my understanding. These wondrous carvings, still in evidence to this day, are hidden amongst a few sacred sites throughout Europe. The meaning of these intricate carvings, now developed as meditative pathways, is still a mystery and yet can be understood at the deepest levels through an empirical-based experience.
The wonderful thing is that we can absolutely learn how to dowse the earth’s wisdom, how to enter into a dialogue with its energy, and how to design and place our own earth-honoring and energizing of sacred sites.
The most commonly known labyrinth is the one, created around the 1200s, that is embedded on the floor of a cathedral in Chartres, France.
In Chartres, France the Templars must have felt some supremely powerful energy there. It had probably been the intention of the Templars to first find this most powerful sacred site area and then build a beautiful cathedral on that site.
“The labyrinth is a path that invites you to take a “pilgrimage.” The outcome? Walk mindfully with authentic meditation – having your body and soul become one.
It is found while walking this path step after step, not afterward, not
walking around it that this revelation can be found. The pathway evokes meditation on the human existence – long, fluctuating, challenging – people can advance with confidence regarding their reconciliation. It is said that a sense of existence can also be found.”
I encourage you to experiment with creating your own sacred walking path as a mediation. Whether on a labyrinth, in nature, now called nature bath/forest bathing, more on that at another date, or a stroll through your own neighborhood, Source is surely to be found in your silent observations.
All Love and Blessings,
Melinda
